VESSELS UNTO HONOUR

Housekeeping

"She looketh well to the ways of her household,

and eateth not the bread of idleness."

Proverbs 31:27

In Luke 10:40-41, Martha was never reproved for being a good housekeeper but rather for letting her work come between her and the Lord. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

(Angela's Note: Maybe if she kept her house better, she wouldn't have to speed along when company came - I know, I can be guilty of this.)

Titus 2:5 "… keepers at home … that the word of God be not blasphemed.

In the Greek, "keepers at home" means caring for the house, working at home
a) the (watch or) keeper of the house
b) keeping at home and taking care of household affairs
c) a domestic (the career is the home, children)

I. Why Is Housekeeping Important?

A. Honouring to the LORD.  Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31

* Does the way you keep your household truly honour the Lord?

Note also Titus 2:4-5 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

B. Honouring to your Husband. Proverbs 31:10, 12, 28

Is it not a good thing to keep a clean, ordered household for your husband? A Husband's main job is outside the home. Ladies, your main duty is within the home. One of those duties is housekeeping. What would happen if our husbands worked the way we keep house?

Example: She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. Proverbs 31:12
It is good to keep a clean home for him.

Example: Husbands drops in with a guest, perhaps a fellow-employee, boss, the Pastor, or a neighbour. It doesn't reflect well for your husband if the house is not kept. Proverbs 31:23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. v. 12

C. Honourable for your Children.

Proverbs 31:28-29 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

1. Will your children refer to you to your manner of keeping the family household as blessed?
2. Is it a good example?
3. Is it good training for them?
4. Will they enjoy bringing friends to a tidy, clean-smelling home? Is yours such a testimony?

II. What Will Housekeeping Require?

A. Work

Prov.31:13 "… worketh willingly with her hands." v. 17; Ecclesiastes 9:10a

1. Priorities
2. Daily Tasks
3. Flexibility

2. Awareness  She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Proverbs 31:27
3. Action - do not be a PROCRASTINATOR

A Mother's Pay Check

When you get discouraged, about all there is to do;
When chores just seem to pile up high, and you want to cry "boo hoo!"
Pause a moment and consider, before that great big sigh;
Our reward is not of this earth, nor does it have wings for to fly.

Should not we work all the harder, knowing 'tis not of silver, nor of gold,
but was planned for us by the Father, in bygone days of old?
And one day when we enter, Heaven's pearly gates,
We'll see our pay check was long in coming,but will know 'twas worth the wait.

For what on this earth can compare, to the words we long to hear;
Spoken from our Master's lips "Well done, well done, my dear!
You took what you were given, and plodded and worked faithfully,
Well done: A good and faithful servant, Thou hast been to Me!"

Faithfulness is not much to ask for,

even from a pile of dust!
