Where To Go When...
Hebrews 11
1 Now faith is the substance
of things hoped for, the
evidence of things not seen.
2 For by it the elders
obtained a good report.
3 Through faith we
understand that the worlds
were framed by the word of
God, so that things which
are seen were not made of
things which do appear.
4 By faith Abel offered unto
God a more excellent
sacrifice than Cain, by
which he obtained witness
that he was righteous, God
testifying of his gifts: and
by it he being dead yet
speaketh.
5 By faith Enoch was
translated that he should
not see death; and was not
found, because God had
translated him: for before
his translation he had this
testimony, that he pleased
God.
6 But without faith it is
impossible to please him:
for he that cometh to God
must believe that he is, and
that he is a rewarder of
them that diligently seek
him.
7 By faith Noah, being
warned of God of things not
seen as yet, moved with
fear, prepared an ark to the
saving of his house; by the
which he condemned the
world, and became heir of
the righteousness which is
by faith.
8 By faith Abraham, when he
was called to go out into a
place which he should after
receive for an inheritance,
obeyed; and he went out, not
knowing whither he went.
9 By faith he sojourned in
the land of promise, as in a
strange country, dwelling in
tabernacles with Isaac and
Jacob, the heirs with him of
the same promise:
10 For he looked for a city
which hath foundations,
whose builder and maker is
God.
11 Through faith also Sara
herself received strength to
conceive seed, and was
delivered of a child when
she was past age, because
she judged him faithful who
had promised.
12 Therefore sprang there
even of one, and him as good
as dead, so many as the
stars of the sky in
multitude, and as the sand
which is by the sea shore
innumerable.
13 These all died in faith,
not having received the
promises, but having seen
them afar off, and were
persuaded of them, and
embraced them, and confessed
that they were strangers and
pilgrims on the earth.
14 For they that say such
things declare plainly that
they seek a country.
15 And truly, if they had
been mindful of that country
from whence they came out,
they might have had
opportunity to have
returned.
16 But now they desire a
better country, that is, an
heavenly: wherefore God is
not ashamed to be called
their God: for he hath
prepared for them a city.
17 By faith Abraham, when he
was tried, offered up Isaac:
and he that had received the
promises offered up his only
begotten son,
18 Of whom it was said, That
in Isaac shall thy seed be
called:
19 Accounting that God was
able to raise him up, even
from the dead; from whence
also he received him in a
figure.
20 By faith Isaac blessed
Jacob and Esau concerning
things to come.
21 By faith Jacob, when he
was a dying, blessed both
the sons of Joseph; and
worshipped, leaning upon the
top of his staff.
22 By faith Joseph, when he
died, made mention of the
departing of the children of
Israel; and gave commandment
concerning his bones.
23 By faith Moses, when he
was born, was hid three
months of his parents,
because they saw he was a
proper child; and they were
not afraid of the king's
commandment.
24 By faith Moses, when he
was come to years, refused
to be called the son of
Pharaoh's daughter;
25 Choosing rather to suffer
affliction with the people
of God, than to enjoy the
pleasures of sin for a
season;
26 Esteeming the reproach of
Christ greater riches than
the treasures in Egypt: for
he had respect unto the
recompence of the reward.
27 By faith he forsook
Egypt, not fearing the wrath
of the king: for he endured,
as seeing him who is
invisible.
28 Through faith he kept the
passover, and the sprinkling
of blood, lest he that
destroyed the firstborn
should touch them.
29 By faith they passed
through the Red sea as by
dry land: which the
Egyptians assaying to do
were drowned.
30 By faith the walls of
Jericho fell down, after
they were compassed about
seven days.
31 By faith the harlot Rahab
perished not with them that
believed not, when she had
received the spies with
peace.
32 And what shall I more
say? for the time would fail
me to tell of Gedeon, and of
Barak, and of Samson, and of
Jephthae; of David also, and
Samuel, and of the prophets:
33 Who through faith subdued
kingdoms, wrought
righteousness, obtained
promises, stopped the mouths
of lions,
34 Quenched the violence of
fire, escaped the edge of
the sword, out of weakness
were made strong, waxed
valiant in fight, turned to
flight the armies of the
aliens.
35 Women received their dead
raised to life again: and
others were tortured, not
accepting deliverance; that
they might obtain a better
resurrection:
36 And others had trial of
cruel mockings and
scourgings, yea, moreover of
bonds and imprisonment:
37 They were stoned, they
were sawn asunder, were
tempted, were slain with the
sword: they wandered about
in sheepskins and goatskins;
being destitute, afflicted,
tormented;
38 (Of whom the world was
not worthy:) they wandered
in deserts, and in
mountains, and in dens and
caves of the earth.
39 And these all, having
obtained a good report
through faith, received not
the promise:
40 God having provided some
better thing for us, that
they without us should not
be made perfect.
James 3
13 Who is a wise man and
endued with knowledge among
you? let him shew out of a
good conversation his works
with meekness of wisdom.
14 But if ye have bitter
envying and strife in your
hearts, glory not, and lie
not against the truth.
15 This wisdom descendeth
not from above, but is
earthly, sensual, devilish.
16 For where envying and
strife is, there is
confusion and every evil
work.
17 But the wisdom that is
from above is first pure,
then peaceable, gentle, and
easy to be intreated, full
of mercy and good fruits,
without partiality, and
without hypocrisy.
18 And the fruit of
righteousness is sown in
peace of them that make
peace.
Isaiah 40
1 Comfort ye, comfort ye my
people, saith your God.
2 Speak ye comfortably to
Jerusalem, and cry unto her,
that her warfare is
accomplished, that her
iniquity is pardoned: for
she hath received of the
LORD'S hand double for all
her sins.
3 The voice of him that
crieth in the wilderness,
Prepare ye the way of the
LORD, make straight in the
desert a highway for our
God.
4 Every valley shall be
exalted, and every mountain
and hill shall be made low:
and the crooked shall be
made straight, and the rough
places plain:
5 And the glory of the LORD
shall be revealed, and all
flesh shall see it together:
for the mouth of the LORD
hath spoken it.
6 The voice said, Cry. And
he said, What shall I cry?
All flesh is grass, and all
the goodliness thereof is as
the flower of the field:
7 The grass withereth, the
flower fadeth: because the
spirit of the LORD bloweth
upon it: surely the people
is grass.
8 The grass withereth, the
flower fadeth: but the word
of our God shall stand for
ever.
9 O Zion, that bringest good
tidings, get thee up into
the high mountain; O
Jerusalem, that bringest
good tidings, lift up thy
voice with strength; lift it
up, be not afraid; say unto
the cities of Judah, Behold
your God!
10 Behold, the Lord GOD will
come with strong hand, and
his arm shall rule for him:
behold, his reward is with
him, and his work before
him.
11 He shall feed his flock
like a shepherd: he shall
gather the lambs with his
arm, and carry them in his
bosom, and shall gently lead
those that are with young.
12 Who hath measured the
waters in the hollow of his
hand, and meted out heaven
with the span, and
comprehended the dust of the
earth in a measure, and
weighed the mountains in
scales, and the hills in a
balance?
13 Who hath directed the
Spirit of the LORD, or being
his counsellor hath taught
him?
14 With whom took he
counsel, and who instructed
him, and taught him in the
path of judgment, and taught
him knowledge, and shewed to
him the way of
understanding?
15 Behold, the nations are
as a drop of a bucket, and
are counted as the small
dust of the balance: behold,
he taketh up the isles as a
very little thing.
16 And Lebanon is not
sufficient to burn, nor the
beasts thereof sufficient
for a burnt offering.
17 All nations before him
are as nothing; and they are
counted to him less than
nothing, and vanity.
18 To whom then will ye
liken God? or what likeness
will ye compare unto him?
19 The workman melteth a
graven image, and the
goldsmith spreadeth it over
with gold, and casteth
silver chains.
20 He that is so
impoverished that he hath no
oblation chooseth a tree
that will not rot; he
seeketh unto him a cunning
workman to prepare a graven
image, that shall not be
moved.
21 Have ye not known? have
ye not heard? hath it not
been told you from the
beginning? have ye not
understood from the
foundations of the earth?
22 It is he that sitteth
upon the circle of the
earth, and the inhabitants
thereof are as grasshoppers;
that stretcheth out the
heavens as a curtain, and
spreadeth them out as a tent
to dwell in:
23 That bringeth the princes
to nothing; he maketh the
judges of the earth as
vanity.
24 Yea, they shall not be
planted; yea, they shall not
be sown: yea, their stock
shall not take root in the
earth: and he shall also
blow upon them, and they
shall wither, and the
whirlwind shall take them
away as stubble.
25 To whom then will ye
liken me, or shall I be
equal? saith the Holy One.
26 Lift up your eyes on
high, and behold who hath
created these things, that
bringeth out their host by
number: he calleth them all
by names by the greatness of
his might, for that he is
strong in power; not one
faileth.
27 Why sayest thou, O Jacob,
and speakest, O Israel, My
way is hid from the LORD,
and my judgment is passed
over from my God?
28 Hast thou not known? hast
thou not heard, that the
everlasting God, the LORD,
the Creator of the ends of
the earth, fainteth not,
neither is weary? there is
no searching of his
understanding.
29 He giveth power to the
faint; and to them that have
no might he increaseth
strength.
30 Even the youths shall
faint and be weary, and the
young men shall utterly
fall:
31 But they that wait upon
the LORD shall renew their
strength; they shall mount
up with wings as eagles;
they shall run, and not be
weary; and they shall walk,
and not faint.
John 14
1 Let not your heart be
troubled: ye believe in God,
believe also in me.
2 In my Father's house are
many mansions: if it were
not so, I would have told
you. I go to prepare a place
for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a
place for you, I will come
again, and receive you unto
myself; that where I am,
there ye may be also.
4 And whither I go ye know,
and the way ye know.
5 Thomas saith unto him,
Lord, we know not whither
thou goest; and how can we
know the way?
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am
the way, the truth, and the
life: no man cometh unto the
Father, but by me.
7 If ye had known me, ye
should have known my Father
also: and from henceforth ye
know him, and have seen him.
8 Philip saith unto him,
Lord, shew us the Father,
and it sufficeth us.
9 Jesus saith unto him, Have
I been so long time with
you, and yet hast thou not
known me, Philip? he that
hath seen me hath seen the
Father; and how sayest thou
then, Shew us the Father?
10 Believest thou not that I
am in the Father, and the
Father in me? the words that
I speak unto you I speak not
of myself: but the Father
that dwelleth in me, he
doeth the works.
11 Believe me that I am in
the Father, and the Father
in me: or else believe me
for the very works' sake.
12 Verily, verily, I say
unto you, He that believeth
on me, the works that I do
shall he do also; and
greater works than these
shall he do; because I go
unto my Father.
13 And whatsoever ye shall
ask in my name, that will I
do, that the Father may be
glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask any thing
in my name, I will do it.
15 If ye love me, keep my
commandments.
16 And I will pray the
Father, and he shall give
you another Comforter, that
he may abide with you for
ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth;
whom the world cannot
receive, because it seeth
him not, neither knoweth
him: but ye know him; for he
dwelleth with you, and shall
be in you.
18 I will not leave you
comfortless: I will come to
you.
19 Yet a little while, and
the world seeth me no more;
but ye see me: because I
live, ye shall live also.
20 At that day ye shall know
that I am in my Father, and
ye in me, and I in you.
21 He that hath my
commandments, and keepeth
them, he it is that loveth
me: and he that loveth me
shall be loved of my Father,
and I will love him, and
will manifest myself to him.
22 Judas saith unto him, not
Iscariot, Lord, how is it
that thou wilt manifest
thyself unto us, and not
unto the world?
23 Jesus answered and said
unto him, If a man love me,
he will keep my words: and
my Father will love him, and
we will come unto him, and
make our abode with him.
24 He that loveth me not
keepeth not my sayings: and
the word which ye hear is
not mine, but the Father's
which sent me.
25 These things have I
spoken unto you, being yet
present with you.
26 But the Comforter, which
is the Holy Ghost, whom the
Father will send in my name,
he shall teach you all
things, and bring all things
to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have said unto
you.
27 Peace I leave with you,
my peace I give unto you:
not as the world giveth,
give I unto you. Let not
your heart be troubled,
neither let it be afraid.
28 Ye have heard how I said
unto you, I go away, and
come again unto you. If ye
loved me, ye would rejoice,
because I said, I go unto
the Father: for my Father is
greater than I.
29 And now I have told you
before it come to pass,
that, when it is come to
pass, ye might believe.
30 Hereafter I will not talk
much with you: for the
prince of this world cometh,
and hath nothing in me.
31 But that the world may
know that I love the Father;
and as the Father gave me
commandment, even so I do.
Arise, let us go hence.
John 15
1 I am the true vine, and my
Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that
beareth not fruit he taketh
away: and every branch that
beareth fruit, he purgeth
it, that it may bring forth
more fruit.
3 Now ye are clean through
the word which I have spoken
unto you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you.
As the branch cannot bear
fruit of itself, except it
abide in the vine; no more
can ye, except ye abide in
me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the
branches: He that abideth in
me, and I in him, the same
bringeth forth much fruit:
for without me ye can do
nothing.
6 If a man abide not in me,
he is cast forth as a
branch, and is withered; and
men gather them, and cast
them into the fire, and they
are burned.
7 If ye abide in me, and my
words abide in you, ye shall
ask what ye will, and it
shall be done unto you.
8 Herein is my Father
glorified, that ye bear much
fruit; so shall ye be my
disciples.
9 As the Father hath loved
me, so have I loved you:
continue ye in my love.
10 If ye keep my
commandments, ye shall abide
in my love; even as I have
kept my Father's
commandments, and abide in
his love.
11 These things have I
spoken unto you, that my joy
might remain in you, and
that your joy might be full.
12 This is my commandment,
That ye love one another, as
I have loved you.
13 Greater love hath no man
than this, that a man lay
down his life for his
friends.
14 Ye are my friends, if ye
do whatsoever I command you.
15 Henceforth I call you not
servants; for the servant
knoweth not what his lord
doeth: but I have called you
friends; for all things that
I have heard of my Father I
have made known unto you.
16 Ye have not chosen me,
but I have chosen you, and
ordained you, that ye should
go and bring forth fruit,
and that your fruit should
remain: that whatsoever ye
shall ask of the Father in
my name, he may give it you.
17 These things I command
you, that ye love one
another.
18 If the world hate you, ye
know that it hated me before
it hated you.
19 If ye were of the world,
the world would love his
own: but because ye are not
of the world, but I have
chosen you out of the world,
therefore the world hateth
you.
20 Remember the word that I
said unto you, The servant
is not greater than his
lord. If they have
persecuted me, they will
also persecute you; if they
have kept my saying, they
will keep yours also.
21 But all these things will
they do unto you for my
name's sake, because they
know not him that sent me.
22 If I had not come and
spoken unto them, they had
not had sin: but now they
have no cloke for their sin.
23 He that hateth me hateth
my Father also.
24 If I had not done among
them the works which none
other man did, they had not
had sin: but now have they
both seen and hated both me
and my Father.
25 But this cometh to pass,
that the word might be
fulfilled that is written in
their law, They hated me
without a cause.
26 But when the Comforter is
come, whom I will send unto
you from the Father, even
the Spirit of truth, which
proceedeth from the Father,
he shall testify of me:
27 And ye also shall bear
witness, because ye have
been with me from the
beginning.
Matthew 5
9 Blessed are the
peacemakers: for they shall
be called the children of
God.
22 But I say unto you, That
whosoever is angry with his
brother without a cause
shall be in danger of the
judgment: and whosoever
shall say to his brother,
Raca, shall be in danger of
the council: but whosoever
shall say, Thou fool, shall
be in danger of hell fire.
Matthew 6
19 Lay not up for yourselves
treasures upon earth, where
moth and rust doth corrupt,
and where thieves break
through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves
treasures in heaven, where
neither moth nor rust doth
corrupt, and where thieves
do not break through nor
steal:
21 For where your treasure
is, there will your heart be
also.
22 The light of the body is
the eye: if therefore thine
eye be single, thy whole
body shall be full of light.
23 But if thine eye be evil,
thy whole body shall be full
of darkness. If therefore
the light that is in thee be
darkness, how great is that
darkness!
24 No man can serve two
masters: for either he will
hate the one, and love the
other; or else he will hold
to the one, and despise the
other. Ye cannot serve God
and mammon.
25 Therefore I say unto you,
Take no thought for your
life, what ye shall eat, or
what ye shall drink; nor yet
for your body, what ye shall
put on. Is not the life more
than meat, and the body than
raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the
air: for they sow not,
neither do they reap, nor
gather into barns; yet your
heavenly Father feedeth
them. Are ye not much better
than they?
27 Which of you by taking
thought can add one cubit
unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought
for raiment? Consider the
lilies of the field, how
they grow; they toil not,
neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you,
That even Solomon in all his
glory was not arrayed like
one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so
clothe the grass of the
field, which to day is, and
to morrow is cast into the
oven, shall he not much more
clothe you, O ye of little
faith?
31 Therefore take no
thought, saying, What shall
we eat? or, What shall we
drink? or, Wherewithal shall
we be clothed?
32 (For after all these
things do the Gentiles
seek:) for your heavenly
Father knoweth that ye have
need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the
kingdom of God, and his
righteousness; and all these
things shall be added unto
you.
34 Take therefore no thought
for the morrow: for the
morrow shall take thought
for the things of itself.
Sufficient unto the day is
the evil thereof.
Psalm 103
1 Bless the LORD, O my soul:
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name.
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all his
benefits:
3 Who forgiveth all thine
iniquities; who healeth all
thy diseases;
4 Who redeemeth thy life
from destruction; who
crowneth thee with
lovingkindness and tender
mercies;
5 Who satisfieth thy mouth
with good things; so that
thy youth is renewed like
the eagle's.
6 The LORD executeth
righteousness and judgment
for all that are oppressed.
7 He made known his ways
unto Moses, his acts unto
the children of Israel.
8 The LORD is merciful and
gracious, slow to anger, and
plenteous in mercy.
9 He will not always chide:
neither will he keep his
anger for ever.
10 He hath not dealt with us
after our sins; nor rewarded
us according to our
iniquities.
11 For as the heaven is high
above the earth, so great is
his mercy toward them that
fear him.
12 As far as the east is
from the west, so far hath
he removed our
transgressions from us.
13 Like as a father pitieth
his children, so the LORD
pitieth them that fear him.
14 For he knoweth our frame;
he remembereth that we are
dust.
15 As for man, his days are
as grass: as a flower of the
field, so he flourisheth.
16 For the wind passeth over
it, and it is gone; and the
place thereof shall know it
no more.
17 But the mercy of the LORD
is from everlasting to
everlasting upon them that
fear him, and his
righteousness unto
children's children;
18 To such as keep his
covenant, and to those that
remember his commandments to
do them.
19 The LORD hath prepared
his throne in the heavens;
and his kingdom ruleth over
all.
20 Bless the LORD, ye his
angels, that excel in
strength, that do his
commandments, hearkening
unto the voice of his word.
21 Bless ye the LORD, all ye
his hosts; ye ministers of
his, that do his pleasure.
22 Bless the LORD, all his
works in all places of his
dominion: bless the LORD, O
my soul.
Psalm 104
23 Man goeth forth unto his
work and to his labour until
the evening.
24 O LORD, how manifold are
thy works! in wisdom hast
thou made them all: the
earth is full of thy riches.
33 I will sing unto the LORD
as long as I live: I will
sing praise to my God while
I have my being.
34 My meditation of him
shall be sweet: I will be
glad in the LORD.
Psalm 139
1 O LORD, thou hast searched
me, and known me.
2 Thou knowest my
downsitting and mine
uprising, thou understandest
my thought afar off.
3 Thou compassest my path
and my lying down, and art
acquainted with all my ways.
4 For there is not a word in
my tongue, but, lo, O LORD,
thou knowest it altogether.
5 Thou hast beset me behind
and before, and laid thine
hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too
wonderful for me; it is
high, I cannot attain unto
it.
7 Whither shall I go from
thy spirit? or whither shall
I flee from thy presence?
8 If I ascend up into
heaven, thou art there: if I
make my bed in hell, behold,
thou art there.
9 If I take the wings of the
morning, and dwell in the
uttermost parts of the sea;
10 Even there shall thy hand
lead me, and thy right hand
shall hold me.
11 If I say, Surely the
darkness shall cover me;
even the night shall be
light about me.
12 Yea, the darkness hideth
not from thee; but the night
shineth as the day: the
darkness and the light are
both alike to thee.
13 For thou hast possessed
my reins: thou hast covered
me in my mother's womb.
14 I will praise thee; for I
am fearfully and wonderfully
made: marvellous are thy
works; and that my soul
knoweth right well.
15 My substance was not hid
from thee, when I was made
in secret, and curiously
wrought in the lowest parts
of the earth.
16 Thine eyes did see my
substance, yet being
unperfect; and in thy book
all my members were written,
which in continuance were
fashioned, when as yet there
was none of them.
17 How precious also are thy
thoughts unto me, O God! how
great is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them,
they are more in number than
the sand: when I awake, I am
still with thee.
19 Surely thou wilt slay the
wicked, O God: depart from
me therefore, ye bloody men.
20 For they speak against
thee wickedly, and thine
enemies take thy name in
vain.
21 Do not I hate them, O
LORD, that hate thee? and am
not I grieved with those
that rise up against thee?
22 I hate them with perfect
hatred: I count them mine
enemies.
23 Search me, O God, and
know my heart: try me, and
know my thoughts:
24 And see if there be any
wicked way in me, and lead
me in the way everlasting.
Psalm 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd; I
shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down
in green pastures: he
leadeth me beside the still
waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he
leadeth me in the paths of
righteousness for his name's
sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through
the valley of the shadow of
death, I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me; thy
rod and thy staff they
comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table
before me in the presence of
mine enemies: thou anointest
my head with oil; my cup
runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy
shall follow me all the days
of my life: and I will dwell
in the house of the LORD for
ever.
Psalm 27
1 The LORD is my light and
my salvation; whom shall I
fear? the LORD is the
strength of my life; of whom
shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked, even mine
enemies and my foes, came
upon me to eat up my flesh,
they stumbled and fell.
3 Though an host should
encamp against me, my heart
shall not fear: though war
should rise against me, in
this will I be confident.
4 One thing have I desired
of the LORD, that will I
seek after; that I may dwell
in the house of the LORD all
the days of my life, to
behold the beauty of the
LORD, and to enquire in his
temple.
5 For in the time of trouble
he shall hide me in his
pavilion: in the secret of
his tabernacle shall he hide
me; he shall set me up upon
a rock.
6 And now shall mine head be
lifted up above mine enemies
round about me: therefore
will I offer in his
tabernacle sacrifices of
joy; I will sing, yea, I
will sing praises unto the
LORD.
7 Hear, O LORD, when I cry
with my voice: have mercy
also upon me, and answer me.
8 When thou saidst, Seek ye
my face; my heart said unto
thee, Thy face, LORD, will I
seek.
9 Hide not thy face far from
me; put not thy servant away
in anger: thou hast been my
help; leave me not, neither
forsake me, O God of my
salvation.
10 When my father and my
mother forsake me, then the
LORD will take me up.
11 Teach me thy way, O LORD,
and lead me in a plain path,
because of mine enemies.
12 Deliver me not over unto
the will of mine enemies:
for false witnesses are
risen up against me, and
such as breathe out cruelty.
13 I had fainted, unless I
had believed to see the
goodness of the LORD in the
land of the living.
14 Wait on the LORD: be of
good courage, and he shall
strengthen thine heart:
wait, I say, on the LORD.
Psalm 34
1 I will bless the LORD at
all times: his praise shall
continually be in my mouth.
2 My soul shall make her
boast in the LORD: the
humble shall hear thereof,
and be glad.
3 O magnify the LORD with
me, and let us exalt his
name together.
4 I sought the LORD, and he
heard me, and delivered me
from all my fears.
5 They looked unto him, and
were lightened: and their
faces were not ashamed.
6 This poor man cried, and
the LORD heard him, and
saved him out of all his
troubles.
7 The angel of the LORD
encampeth round about them
that fear him, and
delivereth them.
8 O taste and see that the
LORD is good: blessed is the
man that trusteth in him.
9 O fear the LORD, ye his
saints: for there is no want
to them that fear him.
10 The young lions do lack,
and suffer hunger: but they
that seek the LORD shall not
want any good thing.
11 Come, ye children,
hearken unto me: I will
teach you the fear of the
LORD.
12 What man is he that
desireth life, and loveth
many days, that he may see
good?
13 Keep thy tongue from
evil, and thy lips from
speaking guile.
14 Depart from evil, and do
good; seek peace, and pursue
it.
15 The eyes of the LORD are
upon the righteous, and his
ears are open unto their
cry.
16 The face of the LORD is
against them that do evil,
to cut off the remembrance
of them from the earth.
17 The righteous cry, and
the LORD heareth, and
delivereth them out of all
their troubles.
18 The LORD is nigh unto
them that are of a broken
heart; and saveth such as be
of a contrite spirit.
19 Many are the afflictions
of the righteous: but the
LORD delivereth him out of
them all.
20 He keepeth all his bones:
not one of them is broken.
21 Evil shall slay the
wicked: and they that hate
the righteous shall be
desolate.
22 The LORD redeemeth the
soul of his servants: and
none of them that trust in
him shall be desolate.
Psalm 4
4 Stand in awe, and sin not:
commune with your own heart
upon your bed, and be still.
Selah.
5 Offer the sacrifices of
righteousness, and put your
trust in the LORD.
6 There be many that say,
Who will shew us any good?
LORD, lift thou up the light
of thy countenance upon us.
7 Thou hast put gladness in
my heart, more than in the
time that their corn and
their wine increased.
8 I will both lay me down in
peace, and sleep: for thou,
LORD, only makest me dwell
in safety.
Psalm 51
1 Have mercy upon me, O God,
according to thy
lovingkindness: according
unto the multitude of thy
tender mercies blot out my
transgressions.
2 Wash me throughly from
mine iniquity, and cleanse
me from my sin.
3 For I acknowledge my
transgressions: and my sin
is ever before me.
4 Against thee, thee only,
have I sinned, and done this
evil in thy sight: that thou
mightest be justified when
thou speakest, and be clear
when thou judgest.
5 Behold, I was shapen in
iniquity; and in sin did my
mother conceive me.
6 Behold, thou desirest
truth in the inward parts:
and in the hidden part thou
shalt make me to know
wisdom.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and
I shall be clean: wash me,
and I shall be whiter than
snow.
8 Make me to hear joy and
gladness; that the bones
which thou hast broken may
rejoice.
9 Hide thy face from my
sins, and blot out all mine
iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean
heart, O God; and renew a
right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from thy
presence; and take not thy
holy spirit from me.
12 Restore unto me the joy
of thy salvation; and uphold
me with thy free spirit.
13 Then will I teach
transgressors thy ways; and
sinners shall be converted
unto thee.
14 Deliver me from
bloodguiltiness, O God, thou
God of my salvation: and my
tongue shall sing aloud of
thy righteousness.
15 O Lord, open thou my
lips; and my mouth shall
shew forth thy praise.
16 For thou desirest not
sacrifice; else would I give
it: thou delightest not in
burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are
a broken spirit: a broken
and a contrite heart, O God,
thou wilt not despise.
18 Do good in thy good
pleasure unto Zion: build
thou the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then shalt thou be
pleased with the sacrifices
of righteousness, with burnt
offering and whole burnt
offering: then shall they
offer bullocks upon thine
altar.
Psalm 71
1 In thee, O LORD, do I put
my trust: let me never be
put to confusion.
2 Deliver me in thy
righteousness, and cause me
to escape: incline thine ear
unto me, and save me.
3 Be thou my strong
habitation, whereunto I may
continually resort: thou
hast given commandment to
save me; for thou art my
rock and my fortress.
4 Deliver me, O my God, out
of the hand of the wicked,
out of the hand of the
unrighteous and cruel man.
5 For thou art my hope, O
Lord GOD: thou art my trust
from my youth.
6 By thee have I been holden
up from the womb: thou art
he that took me out of my
mother's bowels: my praise
shall be continually of
thee.
7 I am as a wonder unto
many; but thou art my strong
refuge.
8 Let my mouth be filled
with thy praise and with thy
honour all the day.
9 Cast me not off in the
time of old age; forsake me
not when my strength
faileth.
10 For mine enemies speak
against me; and they that
lay wait for my soul take
counsel together,
11 Saying, God hath forsaken
him: persecute and take him;
for there is none to deliver
him.
12 O God, be not far from
me: O my God, make haste for
my help.
13 Let them be confounded
and consumed that are
adversaries to my soul; let
them be covered with
reproach and dishonour that
seek my hurt.
14 But I will hope
continually, and will yet
praise thee more and more.
15 My mouth shall shew forth
thy righteousness and thy
salvation all the day; for I
know not the numbers
thereof.
16 I will go in the strength
of the Lord GOD: I will make
mention of thy
righteousness, even of thine
only.
17 O God, thou hast taught
me from my youth: and
hitherto have I declared thy
wondrous works.
18 Now also when I am old
and grayheaded, O God,
forsake me not; until I have
shewed thy strength unto
this generation, and thy
power to every one that is
to come.
19 Thy righteousness also, O
God, is very high, who hast
done great things: O God,
who is like unto thee!
20 Thou, which hast shewed
me great and sore troubles,
shalt quicken me again, and
shalt bring me up again from
the depths of the earth.
21 Thou shalt increase my
greatness, and comfort me on
every side.
22 I will also praise thee
with the psaltery, even thy
truth, O my God: unto thee
will I sing with the harp, O
thou Holy One of Israel.
23 My lips shall greatly
rejoice when I sing unto
thee; and my soul, which
thou hast redeemed.
24 My tongue also shall talk
of thy righteousness all the
day long: for they are
confounded, for they are
brought unto shame, that
seek my hurt.
Psalm 91
1 He that dwelleth in the
secret place of the most
High shall abide under the
shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, He
is my refuge and my
fortress: my God; in him
will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver
thee from the snare of the
fowler, and from the noisome
pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with
his feathers, and under his
wings shalt thou trust: his
truth shall be thy shield
and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid
for the terror by night; nor
for the arrow that flieth by
day;
6 Nor for the pestilence
that walketh in darkness;
nor for the destruction that
wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at
thy side, and ten thousand
at thy right hand; but it
shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt
thou behold and see the
reward of the wicked.
9 Because thou hast made the
LORD, which is my refuge,
even the most High, thy
habitation;
10 There shall no evil
befall thee, neither shall
any plague come nigh thy
dwelling.
11 For he shall give his
angels charge over thee, to
keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up
in their hands, lest thou
dash thy foot against a
stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the
lion and adder: the young
lion and the dragon shalt
thou trample under feet.
14 Because he hath set his
love upon me, therefore will
I deliver him: I will set
him on high, because he hath
known my name.
15 He shall call upon me,
and I will answer him: I
will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him, and
honour him.
16 With long life will I
satisfy him, and shew him my
salvation.
