My Heart is Fixed

My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.  (Psa 57:7)

I was sharing this verse on another board for a totally different reason this morning. Then the Lord spoke to my heart. What a blessing it is to dissect God's Word and have it speak to your heart!

Noah Webster's Dictionary says that the definition of fixed is: Settled; established; firm; fast; stable. Let's expound on this a bit.

What is my heart settled in? Is it in the world or is it in the Word? emoticon

Is my heart truly established? If so, on what? Is it established on what my family believes, what the world believes, or is it in the Word? God's established the covenant with Noah using a rainbow. That covenant exists today and the promise will continue forever. ( Gen. 9:17 ) Is my heart established in Christ where it won't be moved forever?

Is my heart firm? Firm on what? Firm on my own opinions? Firm on tradition? Or is my heart firm in the Word? We're exhorted by Paul to rejoice in our hope unto the end. But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. (Heb 3:6)

Is my heart fast? Is it immovable? Do I turn to my family or friends rather than the Lord in time of need? Am I easily swayed to the doctrines of the world? Again, Paul exhorts us to hold fast to our faith. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) (Heb 10:23)

And lastly, is my heart stable? Does it waiver in times of trouble? Paul exhorts us to grow up in the Lord and not to be t9ossed about with every wind of doctrine. That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; (Eph 4:14)

What a potent little verse, huh?
