The Love of My Life!

      I remember when I saw him for the first time... this handsome 16-year old boy passing by me while he was on the school bus.  Our eyes met and he had my heart!

      I met John on August 10th, 1967.  It seemed we were like "peas and carrots"!  We just seemed to go well together.  Knowing him was the best thing that had ever happened to me in my youth.  My father was a recovering alcoholic; my mother was hardly ever home because she worked.  John quickly became my best friend and has been for 35 years!

 

      We dated for seven years before we "tied the knot."  We were married and shortly thereafter moved 1,000 miles away from home ... from the country to the big city!!  I lost my dear husband to the ways of the world.  For six years, he just slipped further and further from me and I felt as though I had no control.  

 

     It was then that I accepted Jesus Christ as my Saviour, on April Fools Day, 1980!  At first, my husband was furious.  This was NOT the same girl he had married.  For a few months, John would not let me go to church nor read my Bible in his presence.  I started praying for my husband and asking God to heal our marriage.  Not two months passed by when the Lord started answering those prayers.  I fell in love with my husband all over again.  I could see the same thing happening with him.  John became very tolerant of my new found faith.  He allowed me to go to church and to read my Bible in his presence.  I even noticed that he "cleaned" up his language in my presence.  Little miracles happened almost daily to encourage me.  

 

      I prayed for my dear husband's salvation daily.  I prayed that God would make him the spiritual leader of our home and prayed consistently that the Lord would work through my husband even though he was not saved.  Eleven years after our marriage, the Lord blessed us with our first child!  What a change that made in John's life.  This hard-hearted policeman became a tender-hearted father.  It was this wonderful event that the Lord used to draw my dear husband to Himself.  My husband walked the aisle and got saved on May 25, 1986!!!  "Great is Thy Faithfulness" was the song in my heart!  

 

      Today, John is a police officer (motorman) in our city.  He loves motorcycling so much!  He drives a Harley Davidson by day and a Honda Goldwing during his off time.  He also loves to go camping.  He's a wonderful husband and father ... and most of all, he is still my best friend!  I praise God for His Hand in my life and that of my dear husband's.  We serve an Awesome God Who lovingly meets our every need!
